Everyone should read this

I remember reading My Family and Other Animals in Year 7, and when my son started Year 7 I bought this for him. Initially he found the vocabulary challenging, but I insisted he persevere. Before long he was unable to put it down, and as soon as he had finished asked me to get the next book. He was totally seduced by the characters and their stories, as I was when I was his age. It is such a hilarious read, and so well written, that you end up with tears streaming down your cheeks as you laugh like a madman while reading some of the adventures encountered by the various eccentric characters. What a life lived! Durrell was indeed blessed, and we are blessed to be able to share it with him.

This book describes several passages from the life of rather extraordinary gifted members of a family with a single mother. In the set up of the beautiful landscape, fauna and flora of Corfu. All seen through the eyes of the family' s Benjamin.As a reader, you are is drawn into this universe, by some sort of absorbing energy, perhaps best described as magnetic .A small document of life, growth and flourishing nourished and stimulated by fun, laughter and a big bunch of of love for living creatures whether human or animal - Sometimes the difference is rather hard to tell.

A Thirty Year Love Affair.

My Famiy and Other Animals is a delightful book. It has been a favourite in my family for many years,and is more enjoyable every time. It is a pity that the new television series which is based on the book does not stick more closely to the original story.
